I have spent hours on the phone /email with Apple who thought, as did I, that the GPS module was damaged and needed to go in for repair (yet to do this). I tried everything (Settings|Privacy/Location Services|Waze |Always), rebooting, resetting, deleting/reinstalling Waze, wiping iPhone, etc and yet still had the problem. nothing to do with being able to see GPS satellites. Had the same problem in the city as I did with the countryside ie. Waze reverted to positioning itself via cell tower locating (circle with dot in the middle) which was often several blocks away from it's true location.
Then all of a sudden 6 months ago I received the 'Cannot connect to GPS' warning in red text and Waze had no idea exactly where it was when driving. I was using Waze on an iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and most lately an iPhone 6 for years with latest iOS without a problem. Seems lots write about the same problem but Waze / Apple seeming to ignore it.
